Learning beyond
the classroom
What?
Established in 2016, Sutherland Secondary’s Global Perspectives Program is designed to enrich students’ understanding of global affairs by fostering their engagement in the interconnectivity of economic, political, environmental, and social systems. Students in the program will develop a global perspective through experiential learning of local and international issues pertaining to global leadership.
why?
"We must rethink the purpose of education to prepare students for life, not exams alone. It must give people the understanding, skills and values they need to cooperate in resolving the interconnected challenges of the 21st Century."
–United Nation’s Global Education First Initiative
The world is itself a classroom, and the Global Perspectives Program has been developed to help students thrive in a new, global reality that embraces interconnection. By fostering critical thinking through project-based curriculum and promoting leadership and self awareness via experiential learning, the Global Perspectives Program prepares students to become global citizens ready to take on the opportunities and challenges presented in our modern world.
